Immersed in second novel. I am working on character as this is an area I need to develop. Ray is probably the most enigmatic of my characters for this book, (working title initials BJ). As a writer I find him so. That is not the same as saying a reader would find him so, nor that I would like a reader to find him so. It is the process of finding out who this person is myself that concerns me here.

Perhaps because of this inability to pin him down the character gets under my skin. He is dogging my footsteps when I walk. Walking helps the flow of thought. Every now and then there is a spark set off by an object or train of thought and another piece of him, his interests, past life, current life is jogged into existence. He didn’t start ‘whole’ (nor did the others), but more with an idea connected with the idea of the book. It would be interesting to know how this process works for others.
